What's Upcoming
Just thought we'd give you an update of what we expect to be added to this site.
1) Web links page. As you may have noticed, it is already online, but isn't quite how good as we would like it yet actually. More useful links, better categories, and posting for all.
2) Plane rental database. Plane rental costs and rental conditions vary between flight schools significantly. Furthermore, sometimes planes simply aren't easily available. So, I decided it would be nice to build up a database full of the various planes, the condition they are in, the terms of hiring, and which airfield they are based at. Sometimes it may be cheaper to hire a plane from another flying school... It also allows smaller flight schools to possibly compete more effectively
3) Sample exam questions. I bought a sample exam the other day. The damned thing was a pain to use, because when I got the question wrong, it referred me back to a book (which I didn't own), and seemed to intentionally hide the correct answers from me. Despite costing a lot (which isn't skylines fault, because thats RRP everywhere), it expires within 6 months. An exam book would have cost the same, would have been more useful and wouldn't have expired. Whilst some electronic exams seem to be great, for the huge price of the one I purchased, I felt they could have at least explained why my answer was incorrect. Furthermore, the CD didn't even mention on the front that the account would expire, and that I needed the series of books! Hence why I feel it would be good to allow people to submit sample exam questions.
4) Info on flying schools. It would be nice to have a full directory of flying schools, and be able to see a list of their planes and such, and the training they offer.
5) Unit converter. Yes we all use google anything. But maybe also allow LMT to UTC conversions, Groundspeed calculations, etc (the stuff google doesn't allow). At the very least could be used to double check calculations (I wouldn't rely on it entirely).
6) Eventually I'd like an application for Android mobiles and such that acts as a unit converter. CX-2's cost too much, and it would be nice to be able to reuse a mobile phone as an electronic flight computer.
7) Nicer start page. Yes, its shocking. I know.
8) New theme. This one isn't quite professional. Too dark, not enough oompth.
9) About us page. Not really neccessary, but provide a way to contact us as well.
10) Equipment reviews / ratings. Found your headset fell apart in a year? Bought a computerised exam which was brilliant, or bought a sickbag which started leaking on the way back. It might be great to know that there is a carbon monoxide detector which lasts 18 months before buying one which only lasts 1.
11) Places to buy equipment, and price comparison (maybe). Also, maybe reviews on the store themselves. Sometimes you may not realise after buying your CPL collection of books for $270 somewhere, that every other store (including the one around the corner) is selling it for $220.
12) Less suckage overall. I'd like this website to be the place for people to go for aviation information in Australia and possibly even in some cases, world wide. There doesn't seem to be any websites for the general aviator. They all seem to be flight clubs, historical info sites, or flight simulation. Preferably, we should be able to cover almost everything :D
13) More users and a faster site. Its handy to have both of these ;)
